Welcome to the Second Grade with Ms. Buckowski!
I have been working in elementary school education for many years. I have a California Teaching Credential and I also have a Masters Degree in Private School Administration. I taught in the Los Angeles Public School System before I left teaching to raise my family. I have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. When my children were older, I returned to teaching, but instead of returning to the Los Angeles Public School System, I started working for the Los Angeles Archdiocese. I was blessed to have been taught by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I not only attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School, I also graduated from Immaculate Heart High School and then received my BA from Immaculate Heart College. I know the value of a Catholic Education through my own experience and through my experience as a parent of 3 who attended Elementary Schools and High Schools in the LA Archdiocese. Your best gift to your child is a Catholic School Education and I couldn't be more sincere when I say that Saint Dominic School is one of the best schools in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.
In the second grade we are preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of The Holy Eucharist. Our Religion classes are designed to help the young learner understand that they need to choose the right thing to do when they have a choice to make and take responsibility for their actions. It is important for the children to be able to recognize the choice that they make has a consequence. We recognize the need to say we are sorry and understand God's forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We also celebrate with the school community when we are able to receive our First Holy Communion as part of our second grade curriculum.
Through Art, we create pictures with great detail which also helps us with our Math, Reading and Writing Skills. Our learning environment supports individual achievement as well as team building. My long term goal for my students in 2nd Grade is to take ownership over their own learning. We celebrate and enjoy every day looking forward to being 3rd graders next year.
